Filter Media
A sand-anthracite filter or dual media filter/multi-media filter is primarily used for the removal of turbidity and suspended solids as low as 10-20 microns. Dual media filters provide very efficient particle removal under the conditions of high filtration rate. Inside a sand-anthracite filter is a layered bed of filter media.
The bed is graded from bottom to top as follows:
Having the filter media graded this way enables the sand anthracite Filter to run for longer times before a backwash is necessary.
A sand anthracite filter or multi-media filter consists of 2 main parts:
- A composite pressure vessel with Multiport Valve
- Graded beds of sand and anthracite
Internally, the dual media filter is fitted with an inlet distributor and a bottom Collecting system. Externally, the system is fitted with frontal pipe work and isolation valves. Sand is used to remove the suspended particles and anthracite is used to remove the odor and color etc. to make the water fit for different applications. Gravels and pebbles are provided to support to both the media. Periodically, the sand-anthracite filter will backwash, which changes the water flow through the sand-anthracite filter.

The process of oxidation followed by filtration is fairly easy and is often the treatment of choice. The use of ion exchange resins for the removal of iron and manganese has limited application due to the requirement that the contaminants be in dissolved form and at very low levels. This is due to the tendency of oxygen to react with the iron and managanes and therefore, increase the potential for plugging and buildup on the resin surface. Iron fouling is a common, and sometimes, irreversible problem with ion exchange treatment.

Multi-Media Filtration is effective in removing dirt, silt, rust, and other suspended particles from a water stream with a filtration level of approximately 5 to 15 microns.
Multi-Media Filters contain several types of media and gravel under bedding. Multi-media filtration is a proven design concept; the coarse media layers in the top of the tank trap large particles, and successively smaller particles are trapped in the finer layers of media deeper in the bed The result is a highly efficient filtering since removal takes place throughout the entire bed. Multi-Media depth filters typically remove particles 5-15 microns in size or larger. All media included in our filters are carefully selected according to particle size, so the media retains its stratification during backwash and rinse. Automatic backwashing system removes the trapped contaminants within the filter bed and washes them down the drain.

- INDION 220 Na is a high capacity strongly acidic cation exchanger in bead form. It is based on cross linked polystyrene and has a gel structure. The resin contains sulphonic acid functional groups.
